On a bright day in Onitsha, Mr. Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State and 2023 presidential candidate, returned to a place that shaped his early life — Christ the King College (CKC). With joy and purpose, he gave a ₦50 million donation to the school to help support its growth and development.
Mr. Obi, known for his consistent support for education and human development, made the donation during a visit to the school where he once studied as a young boy. He said giving back to the school is part of his commitment to improving education in Nigeria.
But the visit didn’t end without some questions from the press.
Recently, Mr. Obi also donated to a nursing school in Benin, Edo State, and that donation sparked a reaction from the Edo State Governor, who reportedly warned Obi about his actions in the state.
When journalists asked him how he felt about the threat from the governor, Obi answered calmly and confidently. He said:
“The governor should be thanking me, not threatening me. My donation to the nursing school was meant to help the health system in Edo State. If the health sector in Edo was working well, there would be no need for my support.”
He added that he is not afraid of threats and receives them regularly from different parts of Nigeria.
“Threats don’t bother me. I get threatened every day. The ones you hear about are only the ones that became public. But I won’t be afraid to help people,” Obi said.
When asked if he would still return to Edo to donate again, he replied:
“If I get the chance to help again in Benin, I will. I always say this — let’s forget politics for once and think about how to invest in people. My donation was not political; it was for the people, for their health and future. If they have good doctors and nurses, their lives will be better.”
Mr. Obi made it clear that his reason for giving is not to score political points but to support the development of communities across the country.
He believes that leaders should focus more on lifting people out of poverty, improving education, and strengthening the health sector, rather than playing politics with everything.
This latest donation to CKC Onitsha shows once again how Peter Obi continues to live by his words, investing in people and using his influence to support progress wherever he can.
Many Nigerians have praised him for his humility, generosity, and courage. In a time when leaders often think only of their political interests, Obi’s actions are seen as a refreshing reminder of what true leadership should look like.
Whether it's in Onitsha, Benin, or anywhere else in Nigeria, Peter Obi says he will continue to support development and contribute to building a better society for all.
